About MHS

Madison High School, officially known as James Madison High School, is a public institution in the Clairemont Mesa East neighborhood of San Diego, California. It's part of the San Diego Unified School District. The school's campus, which spans 50 acres, was established in 1962 and is situated north of Balboa Avenue, south of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, and west of Interstate 805. As of the 2019-20 academic year, Madison High School served almost 1,100 students in grades 9 through 12.


The school provides its students with various services and resources, including a comprehensive counseling center, academic departments, extracurricular activities, and sports programs. Notable alums include professional athletes, a Democratic politician, and journalists, indicating the diverse paths its students have taken after graduation.
